Andrew Chung

violin and artistic director of INNERchamber

Born and raised in Stratford, Ontario, Andrew studied violin with Elizabeth Fraser, Marjorie Loft, and Kenneth Perkins.  Andrew spent a number of years living in Sydney, Australia, where he was an active professional musician performing with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House.  While is Sydney, he was awarded his Bachelor and Masters Degrees with Distinction from the Australian Institute of Music while studying under Alice Waten and Sophie Rowell. He was also a founding member of the ARCO chamber orchestra. Andrew was regularly broadcast on national ABC (Australia) radio as a member of both groups.

 

Andrew currently performs regularly with the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.  He has also worked with the Hamilton Philharmonic, Orchestra London, and the Stratford Shakespearean Festival Orchestra among others. He has performed recitals in Australia, and Canada, including appearances as part of Stratford Summer Music.  On baroque violin he has performed with the Aradia Ensemble and at the Grand River Baroque Festival.  Andrew is also a very committed teacher and taught in the young musicians program at the Australian Institute of Music, he has tutored the Sydney Youth Orchestra, and coordinated the string program at Kegworth School in Sydney.  He currently teaches privately in Stratford.

 

In 2010 Andrew started the concert series INNERchamber, in Stratford. 
He is the Artistic Director of this new endeavor that explores the wonderful music written for smaller groups of instruments.
