Brahms composed his Horn Trio in 1865 as a remembrance following the death of his mother. This work proved a stepping off point after which his German Requiem would take him to a whole new level of fame. Richard Strauss’ violin sonata signalled the end of his impatient musical apprenticeship before his imagination led him towards the large scale works for which he is so famous.
